The year is 1918 and 19 year old Rebekah Grace Hendricks longs to leave her small Oklahoma town to see the world. There isn't anyone she would rather do this with than Arthur Samson. However this will have to wait as Arthur is sent off to Texas for training to fight in the Great War. Then a telegram comes informing of the illness of Rebekah's Aunt Adabelle and she heads to Texas to take care of her. She arrives there to find her Aunt nearly at the end of a battle with the influenza in a home with 4 small children and no one to care for them but herself. Wings of a Dream tells a story of a girl becoming a woman, and tells of the tragedies that came when the Spanish flu quickly spread through the country leaving death in its wake. As if things weren't bad enough with a world at war.

I found this book to be good, as I am very interested in reading about this time period. The main character is pleasant and the storyline flowed nicely. I would have given it 4 stars, however I found some parts to be repetitive as Rebekah's future became uncertain. All in all this was a heart warming story that I would recommend to others.
