Sunday Wrap-up: June 12, 2016

Hello everyone,

Hope you are all doing well and enjoying the summer weather.

Is it just me or does it seem like a large number of well known people have passed away over the past 6 months? Recently the world is mourning the loss of such greats as Muhammad Ali and Gordie Howe. Yesterday a former contestant from The Voice; Christina Grimmie was gunned down at an autograph signing. Then I woke this morning to hear the news of the nightclub shooting in Orlando, Florida. Terrible events like this really make you reflect on our lives and the state of the world today.

It makes me even more thankful for the opportunity to escape into the stories of my books.

My Reading Progress

Books Completed:

I admit that this wasn't my favourite Mary Higgins Clark book, but the story did keep my attention. I gave it a 3/5 rating.

Recent Posts:

Friday: Book Review: The Color Purple by Alice Walker RATING: 4/5

Coming Up This Week:

Tuesday: Book Review: The Lightning Thief (Percy Jackson and the Olympians, #1) by Rick Riordan RATING: 4/5
Thursday: Book Review: Little House on the Prairie (Little House, #2) by Laura Ingalls Wilder RATING: 3/5

My partner and I are about half way finished listening to this on audio. Its been so long since I first read this book, so I am really enjoying being refreshed on the events of Harry Potter's first year at Hogwarts.

I was sent a copy of this book for review and it is a quite fascinating history lesson on rock music in 1971.

And that is all for today. Happy reading everyone!

  1. I agree, I always read for escapism but now with all the bad stuff in the news I think that's more true than ever! I'm interested in both your reviews this week, especially Percy Jackson since I haven't read those yet. And that rock book about 1971 looks interesting...

  2. Reading is a great way to escape from reality, but the real world is always there when you finish the book. How did you like Percy Jackson?

    1. That is very true.
I loved the first book in the Percy Jackson series. The second one wasn't as good but still enjoyable.

  3. The Harry Potter audiobooks are great (both versions). And it is nice to listen to a favorite when you are feeling down.

  4. The world is changing right in front of our eyes, it is quite unbelievable and hard to feel like you are being part of the change for a better life most days. The last year has been really sad, definitely agree with you. Books and Yoga are my escapism.

Mary Higgins used to be my favourite author before blogging, I need to revisit her again.

    1. Yoga is a great way to escape as well. I should really get back into that.
      Thanks for stopping by.

    1. Me too. I believe I was around 12 when I read it the first time.

  6. I'm glad you are enjoying the Harry Potter audiobook. I am listening to Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. I love listening to the series on audio but I now wish I'd decided to reread the books instead because it's been years since I last read them. There is something about holding those books in your hands and seeing the illustrations and unique type. I miss it. Maybe next year :)

I enjoyed the Percy Jackson series as well as the spinoff series The Heroes of Olympus. Rick Riordan knows how to write humorous books for kids that are entertaining for adults too.

    1. As fun as it is to listen to the audio, I agree its not the same experience as reading a physical book. I hope to read them over again at some point as well.

I look forward to reading the Heros of Olympus as well. :)
