Top 10 Tuesday: Top 5 Books I’m Thankful For/Top 5 Authors I’m Thankful For

Top 10 Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.

Our friends south of the border are gathering to give thanks and this week’s topic for Top 10 Tuesday is giving us bloggers a chance to reflect on this. Here in Canada we celebrate the harvest and give thanks in October, but I would like to wish a Happy Thanksgiving to all those celebrating.

I have decided to split my list in two, as it is a freebie topic for this week.

Top 5 Books I’m Thankful For

1. The Princess Diaries Series by Meg Cabot
This is one of the first series that really kicked off my love for books.

2. The Secret Life of Bee’s by Sue Monk Kidd
Because although this book tackles the disturbing realities of the civil rights movement in the 1960’s south, it was a heartwarming story.

3. The Book of Negroes by Lawrence Hill
For opening my mind to adult literature.

4. The Shack by Wm. Paul Young
For opening my mind to inspirational stories that make me think, reflect and feel.

5. Love You Forever by Robert Munsch
For being the first story to ever make me cry and for teaching me that no matter how old I get, I will always need my mom.

Top 5 Authors I’m Thankful For

1. Meg Cabot: for becoming my first “favourite author” and teaching girls all over the world that it is ok to be different.

2. L.M. Montgomery for introducing me to the beautiful place that is Prince Edward Island.

3. Mitch Albom, who is quickly becoming another one of my favourite authors due to his beautifully written books that touch my heart.

4. J.K. Rowling for creating an incredible magical tale that connected people all over the world.

5. Bernice Thurman Hunter for kicking off a lifelong love of historical fiction.

Did you participate in this weeks Top 10 Tuesday? What bookish things are you thankful for? Let me know and don't forget to post your links in the comments.
