A young woman longing for a child stumbles upon a Christmas miracle.
Investigative journalist Scottie Darden is photographing the homeless for her Lost Souls series when she makes a discovery that could change her life forever. Under a makeshift tent in subzero temperatures in a downtown city park, she finds a woman's dead body with her infant child. Without her cell phone to call for help, Scottie makes the split-second decision to take the baby home. Her initial instinct is to provide the baby with food and shelter until her family can be located. But as her fondness for the baby grows, she finds herself facing a life on the run or worse—prison time for abduction.

About the Author:
Ashley Farley is a wife and mother of two college-aged children. She grew up in the salty marshes of South Carolina, but now lives in Richmond, Virginia, a city she loves for its history and traditions.
After her brother died in 1999 of an accidental overdose, she turned to writing as a way of releasing her pent-up emotions. She wrote SAVING BEN in honor of Neal, the boy she worshipped, the man she could not save. SAVING BEN is not a memoir, but a story about the special bond between siblings.
HER SISTER'S SHOES—June 24, 2015—is a women's novel that proves the healing power of family.

My Thoughts

Rating: 3.5/5
I was sent a copy of Merry Mary by Ashley Foley from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
At only 92 pages, Merry Mary was a quick read and a great way to start off my Christmas reading for the season. This is the first book I have read by Ashley Foley, but upon reading her biography I realised that I also have her book Her Sister’s Shoes on my TBR.

Merry Mary has a touch of suspense and is written in a style that is reminiscent of one of my favourite authors: Mary Higgins Clark. This story kept my interest, but wasn’t exactly as Christmassy as I had hoped. Scottie was an interesting character, who I’m sure many women will be able to relate to. The loss of her own baby left her deeply grieving and played a strong role in the decisions she made. We get a small glimpse into Scotties relationships with her family, although I must say that the one she shared with her brother was my favourite.

I believe that some readers may see Scottie’s rescue of Mary as a gift from god. And others (myself included) may look at the situation as a desperate cry for help from a woman who was dealing with traumatic post-partum depression. Regardless of the reader’s personal views, Merry Mary would make for a great book club discussion and debate.

I look forward to reading more from Ashley Farley in the future.
