Sunday Wrap-up: January 24 2016

It was a very bitter sweet week for me. I helped my parents move and said goodbye to my childhood home. We have a lifetime of memories in the old house, so it was very hard to let it go. However I am so happy for my parents and their new home is beautiful. I'm sure we will have many happy memories there as well.

As I helped them pack up, I couldn't help but think of the song The House that Built Me by Miranda Lambert..

"And I bet you didn't know, under that live oak my favourite dog is burried in the yard"
"...won't take nothing but a memory from the house that built me."

It will get easier I'm sure, but right now I'm just sad.

One of my favourite rooms in their new house is in the basement:

I can't wait to curl up beside the fire with a good book.

I would like to thank Broadway Books for sending me this book in the mail:

I will be reading and reviewing it for TLC Book Tours.

The Mitford Snowmen by Jan Karon

Title: The Mitford Snowmen
Author: Jan Karon
Published: October 2002
Published By: Viking
Format Read: Hardcover
Genre: Short Story, Christmas, Christian Fiction
Date Read: January 4 2015
Rating: 4/5

With a heavy snowfall blanketing the town of Mitford, its residents decide to have an impromptu snowman building contest. Following the characters from Karon’s popular series, The Mitford Snowmen is a cute short story. This small hardcover book features colourful artwork as well.

I came across this little book while searching through the shelves at my local library. I was looking for shorter books to read during a read-a-thon and The Mitford Snowmen was a perfect addition to my pile. It also fit in with the current winter season.

Jan Karon’s Mitford series has been on my TBR list for some time now and this was a wonderful introduction to the characters and the setting. It also gave me an idea of the authors writing style.

Although its characters are from an adult series, this story would be appropriate for adults and children alike. Associated with Hallmark, there are even Mitford themed décor which along with this book would make a wonderful gift.

Top 10 Tuesday: Top 10 Newest Additions to my TBR

Top 10 Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish
Last year when I started this blog, I began rearranging and separating my TBR lists. Before I would add all the books I wanted to read to my Goodreads To Be Read shelf and also to my Books I want to Read board on Pinterest. Then the number just seemed to overwhelm me. So I decided to split the two up, so that my Goodread shelf didn't look quite as daunting.
Now I use my Goodreads To Be Read shelf for books that I own, but haven't read yet. This includes eBooks and ARCS.

My Pinterest Books I Want to Read board has become a master post for books I want to read at some point in time. Today I will be sharing with you the more recent additions to that board:

Sunday Wrap-up: January 17, 2016

It took me until later this past week to get into my reading. I'm not really sure why, but I'm glad the slump only lasted a couple of days. I did manage to get one book finished up though and just in the nick of time...

I meant to participate in Top 10 Tuesday. I had a post made and mentioned it in my Sunday Wrap-up last week, but I forgot to post it. So from now on I'm not going to promise a post unless its actually scheduled. My bad..

Still reading:
I really hope to get that done this week.

Next up:
I know that the Duggar family has quite controversial views and a VERY different lifestyle than I have, but I've been curious about this book for a long time.

And that's about it for me this week. I hope that you all have had a great weekend and a wonderful week ahead.

Happy reading
